The main focus of this unit is to further develop the required knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes of beginning teachers and to assist them to plan for and manage successful learning. They will be encouraged to make connections between their Immersion Practicum and the investigations made using the NSW Board of Studies documents to plan in specific KLAs during the School Experience. The content of the weekly workshops will explore ‘Reflective Practice’ and ‘Best Practice’ in the classroom.
Outcomes
At the completion of the course, students should have:
developed a capacity to integrate theory and practice;
developed the competencies to successfully undertake the demands of each phase of the school experience program;
explored and applied a range of appropriate teaching strategies;
gained a capacity to problem solve in relation to lesson planning and lesson outcomes;
gained an understanding of the culture of the school and the roles and responsibilities of the teacher;
participated in a broad range of school activities;
fostered peer support through the sharing of ideas and resources;
developed the personal capacity to reflect on practice.
